What to Expect in a Residential Treatment Centre
Residential rehabilitation is what most people picture when they think of treating drug and alcohol addiction or mental health concerns. Many people can picture it, but very few understand what inpatient drug and alcohol rehab is actually like.
First, inpatient drug or alcohol rehabilitation will generally take place in a controlled environment wherein a person will have no access to drugs or alcohol. Medications may be available, but they are given when the clinical team deems it medically necessary.
The treatment inside a residential rehab centre will often be the most intensive addiction recovery service available. There will be various therapeutic services used to help people change their behaviour regarding alcohol and drug use, including individual counselling and group therapy.
Private accommodations may be available. If not, guests may sleep in shared rooms. There may also be various amenities, though these will vary from one facility to another.
Towards the end, some rehab centres will offer outpatient treatment or other forms of aftercare for relapse prevention.
