Our Phased Approach to Healing at Liberty Home

Home Our Phased Approach...

At Liberty Home, we understand that recovery is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It is a deeply personal journey, and one that takes time, compassion, and the right environment to truly begin.

That is why we follow a gentle, structured approach, guiding each resident through three carefully designed phases of healing. Each phase supports progress in a natural and meaningful way, helping individuals move from crisis to confidence, with care every step of the way.

Phase 1: Stabilisation and Containment

Weltevrede Manor

The journey starts in a full-time, highly supportive environment at Weltevrede Manor. Here, residents are surrounded by 24-hour care and immersed in a setting that encourages calm, safety, and emotional balance. This phase is all about stabilisation, both physically and psychologically, allowing individuals to feel safe and begin to trust the process.

Technology is put aside for a while and contact with the outside world is kept to a minimum. This gives residents the space to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and begin letting go of the behaviours that have caused harm. With the support of a compassionate clinical team, the focus shifts towards building trust, creating structure, and starting the work of internal regulation. It is a grounding and restorative beginning.

Phase 2: Reintegration with Support

Weltevrede Manor

Once a sense of stability has been established, residents move into a half-day therapeutic programme that gently reintroduces responsibility and personal choice. This phase is all about finding confidence again, at a pace that feels safe and supported.

Personal technology is slowly reintroduced, and residents begin to take part in selected external activities. Therapeutic sessions continue each morning, helping individuals explore their emotional patterns and work through daily experiences. The power to make decisions is gradually returned, with encouragement and guidance always close by.

Our team pays close attention to each resident’s progress, offering consistent feedback and care. It is in this space that many begin to rediscover their own strengths and start to feel more in control of their lives again.

Phase 3: Community and Accountability

Liberty Lodge

The final stage of the programme takes place at Liberty Lodge, a shared living space that reflects more of the real world while still providing the support and structure needed to stay grounded. Here, residents live together, take part in household responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning, and attend one group session each day.

This phase encourages independence, self-awareness, and healthy relationships with others. By living alongside peers and contributing to daily life, residents develop resilience, practise what they have learned, and prepare for life beyond Liberty Home.

It is a time of growth and connection, where individuals begin to see what is possible for themselves and how far they have come.

You Are Not Alone

Choosing to begin this journey takes courage, and we are here to walk it with you. Whether you are seeking help for yourself or someone you love, Liberty Home offers a warm and welcoming space to begin healing. Every step of the way, you will be met with compassion, respect, and hope.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Primary care is the first stage of residential treatment after detox. It provides a safe, structured space where individuals begin to stabilise, understand their addiction, and develop healthier ways of coping. At Liberty Home, this forms part of Phase One, focused on containment, care, and early emotional regulation.

Primary care begins immediately after detox and involves focused therapeutic work to help individuals gain stability and start their recovery journey. Secondary care, such as our Phase Three at Liberty Lodge, supports continued growth through increased responsibility, independence, and real-world reintegration in a supported living environment.

Length of stay depends on your personal needs and the pace of your progress. We recommend a minimum of 28 days, but many residents benefit from a longer stay, often up to eight weeks. Recovery isn’t rushed at Liberty Home—we work with you to ensure you feel ready before moving forward.

We do not provide medical detox on-site. However, we work closely with trusted medical professionals and local facilities to ensure you receive the care you need before entering our programme. Once you’ve safely detoxed, you’re warmly welcomed into our residential care.

Our approach is rooted in the Minnesota model and the 12-step philosophy, combined with evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT. We also address dual diagnosis when mental health concerns are present. Throughout each phase, from stabilisation to community living, our team helps you explore yourself, build resilience, and reconnect with life in a meaningful way.

Liberty Home isn’t a luxury rehab, but we offer exceptional care in an upmarket setting. Our focus is on providing high-quality treatment in a beautiful, homely environment—without the excessive costs that often come with luxury facilities.

Everyone heals at their own pace. If more time is needed, we’ll work with you to extend your stay so you can complete your programme without pressure. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident and supported before taking your next step.

We offer both private and shared rooms in our upmarket residences. Your comfort, privacy, and wellbeing matter to us, and we’ll work with you to choose the accommodation that suits your needs best.

South Africa offers world-class care at a far more accessible cost compared to many international treatment centres. Our setting combines excellent clinical care with natural beauty, privacy, and a healing environment—without compromising on standards.

While we truly value the bond between humans and animals, we’re unable to accommodate pets at Liberty Home. This helps us maintain a calm and consistent therapeutic environment for all residents.

Internet access is limited during the early phase of treatment to help reduce distractions and support emotional stability. As you progress, personal devices are gradually reintroduced during scheduled tech slots, always with your wellbeing in mind.

Yes. Our team is available around the clock, every day. From clinical care and medication management to emotional support and security, you’re never alone at Liberty Home.

Transitioning into secondary care, such as our Phase Three, depends on your readiness. Once you’ve completed the core therapeutic work of primary care and are free from substances, we guide you into the next stage, where you’ll begin to practise independence with continued support.
