Rehab Abroad from the UK

This rehab abroad UK guide is for adults and families weighing up treatment overseas. You probably want three things: a place soon, care you can trust and a price you can plan for. Liberty Home Manor is a 21-bed private residential clinic in Cape Town, South Africa, that treats adults from the UK for addiction, mental health problems, eating disorders and burnout. Many people look abroad because NHS residential places can take a long time to arrange, and private UK rehab can be costly.

Rehab abroad UK: why clients choose Liberty Home

  • Admission can be immediate, subject to bed availability and your medical assessment.
  • 24/7 airport collection from Cape Town International, day or night.
  • Medical detox on site, led by Dr Wiid. Registered nurses are on site 24/7, and doctors are on call 24/7.
  • Small and private: 21 beds, with full wheelchair facilities.
  • Only 1–2 hours ahead of the UK, so family calls are easy to arrange.
  • A UK phone line for assessments, seven days a week: +44 (0)20 4538 7771.

A comprehensive programme: 28 hours a week

Our programme is full time. Each week you take part in 28 hours of structured therapy and activities, planned around your needs. It includes:

  • Process groups, where you work through what is happening for you with a small group and a therapist.
  • Individual counselling every week with your own counsellor.
  • Equine therapy, working with horses to build trust, calm and self-awareness.
  • Boxing, for fitness, focus and a healthy way to release stress.
  • Hiking in and around Cape Town, plus weekly outings.
  • Volunteering in the local community, which helps rebuild purpose and routine.
  • Groups on relapse prevention, family, anxiety and social skills, plus yoga, art and a cooking workshop.
  • Fellowship meetings (AA and NA) during the week.

The days have a clear shape: an early morning group and walk, therapy through the morning and afternoon, meals together, and evening meetings. Structure matters in early recovery. It takes away much of the guesswork and gives you space to focus on getting well.

Is rehab abroad safe?

Rehab abroad can be safe when the clinic is well run. Check every clinic, including ours: – Is it registered and licensed? – Is medical detox done on site, with nurses there day and night? – Who is on duty at night, and how quickly can a doctor be reached? – What happens if you need a hospital? – What is the plan after discharge?

At Liberty Home, registered nurses are on site 24/7, and doctors are on call 24/7. If you need hospital care, we arrange it. Liberty Home is residential only. We don’t run an outpatient programme.

After treatment: going home to the UK

Recovery doesn’t end when you fly home. Before you leave, we plan your aftercare with you. That can include UK support groups, a counsellor or therapist near home, and regular check-ins.
